Bette Midler and Lady Gaga Both Performed as Mermaids Singing in a Wheelchair: Does it matter if Midler did it first?

Bette Midler had performed wearing a mermaid's costume and sat in a wheel chair.  Most recently in Australia, Lady Gaga did the same thing.  She said she did not know that Midler did a similar  act years ago.  Does it really matter if she did?  What really matters is how good the singing is.  Both  women are extremely talented and know how to entertain.
