This tease of Spring has me jonesin' for beachwear

For those of us whose lifestyles don't necessitate a separate section in our closet for the the kind of clothing one finds when they click on the now ubiquitous "resort wear" category, I admit, the first week in January is a wee bit early to already be thinking about in which bikinis, cover-ups and lightweight linen separates we'd like to be frolicking come that first weekend at the Shore in late Spring.

Given the 70+ degree temperatures we're all enjoying in the District today, however, I felt reasonably justified to show you at least a few pieces that have given me warm-weather fever over the past couple of weeks.

And really, you never know if and when you'll receive a text message from an old fling inviting you for a long weekend in Turks and Caicos the second week in February...

That time of year again

If you're in the District and have been outside in the past three hours, you well know we are in the midst of our first adorable snowfall.

Look, I know it's annoying, I know it's something you have to endure year after year, but you have to understand, as transplanted Upper Midwesterners, it's an implicit duty we have to relentlessly condescend to those who have only lived in temperate areas about just how gosh darn awful their Winter weather hardships are.

Thus, even though I long ago adopted a lightweight's tolerance when it comes to frigid temperatures, what you see outside will always be, to me, more adorable than it is any of the menacing adjectives I heard Mr. Weather Channel use this morning.

What is not particularly adorable, however, is the shag-carpet of salt I found installed on both the blacktop and sidewalk surfaces of my city this morning. I realize its function is to preempt whatever snowy shenanigans we DCers could get ourselves into with the half-inch of accumulation, but come on, city workers, there's gotta be a 5-1 salt-to-snow ratio on the corner of 17th and M.

In the name of stiletto preservation, I would make sure to get your 'Since I don't (yet)' regulars weather-proofed (any of the cobblers mentioned here will surely provide this service), and if you happen to be Hot Redhead Lawyer someone who only owns 'Sugar Daddy' shoes, bless your heart and please to boot your commute and carry those precious pairs in a securely zipped-up shoulder bag.

Because we all remember what happens to salty shoes, right?

It was brought to my attention yesterday by a reader that even though we're very much in cool temperature territory (cheers to the few flakes that fell yesterday morning!), I have continued to recommend tops more appropriate for Spring and Summer than Fall and Winter.

And of course, she's right, because quite honestly, I don't "do" cold weather tops. Whenever I start to get a case of the chippy nippies, which is often, I just turn up the heat -- a miserably uncomfortable habit to which both my dog and work colleagues can attest.

I recognize, however, that just because every blouse/shirt/sweater I own is either 3/4-sleeved, short-sleeved, cap-sleeved or sleeveless doesn't mean every blouse/shirt/sweater you would like to own is of that same sort as well.

So, I've done my do-gooder duty and compiled for you a collection of what I consider to be office-suitable Winter tops.

Keep those spending fingers warm!

I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but here in mid-Michigan it is so cold (think low-20s) that on this day, the biggest shopping-a-polooza of the year, your spendaholic author is firmly planted indoors, inches away from one fireplace, feet away from another, bedecked in three layers of double-ply fleece, two long-sleeve t-shirts, size-L sweatpants, and though it's pushing the Christmas season a bit, her adult-size, red and white snowflake-emblazoned turtleneck onesie.

74 degrees may seem to most who live in this tundra a reasonable temperature at which to set one's thermostat, but to a girl who's used to walking her dog in booty shorts and flip-flops at 2am in mid-November and whose own abode usually hovers around jungle in July climate, the baby and I might as well have set foot in f**king Antarctica.

So, in the spirit of constant complaining to my eye-rolling parents about my preciousness' and my near-frostbitten extremities, I thought I'd take the time to put together a selection of fashion-over-function dress gloves.
